BSPPA organizes social and informational gatherings throughout the year. These range from informal meet-ups at local parks to invited speakers on campus to day-long excursions. Our regular BSPPA meeting is typically the second Thursday of every month from 11:30 am to 1 pm (location and topic varies, so please check the calendar for details). There is also a weekly toddler-meetup at Live Oak Park at 4 pm on Tuesdays, please contact Christine at (510) 424-1523 or just show up. Dinorah will provide guidance for exploring career options via informational interviewing and for networking in a job search. Dr. Traci Grzymala from the Berkeley-based Community Resources for Science (CRS) will be presenting. Community Resources for Science (CRS) is a Bay Area science education and outreach non-profit, whose primary focus is to strengthen science teaching and learning in local elementary schools. We will discuss the numerous family-friendly science and engineering events that are locally available to you. Course announcement: Designing your life and work in the United States, Every Thursday September 7th to October 26th from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
An eight-week course offered by the BSPPA. This course will be a fun and engaging way for spouses and partners to learn information and tools to build a successful life in the United States. Participants will learn to understand American values, build skills and confidence to respond to culture shock and develop stronger coping strategies for the stresses of being here. They will also receive tips on best networking practices, learn about volunteering opportunities and rebuild their sense of identity in this new land. This is a unique opportunity to come together with other people going through a similar experience, learn from and share with each other, and take active steps toward creating a more fulfilling life here.
